¡Vamos a viajar!
This summer you and two friends are going on a three week vacation to a
Spanish-speaking country. You've been practicing your Spanish at
school but don't know what the towns and cities will be like or how to
get around. What if you can't find a stamp to send your postcards
or medicine if you get sick? What if you want to go to a museum,
what kind of transportation will you use to get there?
La tarea

¿Cómo es el país?
A good traveler researches their vacation destination
well. You and your friends must learn what to expect as you
travel in a Spanish speaking country. You need to understand how
the cities and towns are organized, what the names of sites and stores
are and how to get around. To make this research job more
manageable you have decided to each research one part. Each
person will organize their information into 1-2 pages for a book, that
when all combined will create a pop-up book of your country.
These books will then be presented to the class.
¡Ojo! Your parents are nervous about this trip and are
expecting to see your finished book. Do your best to impress them
with your beautiful and thoroughly researched book, so they will not be
tempted to call the trip off!
El proceso

¡A trabajar!
Time to get to work and find out what communities are like in the
country you are visiting. The destination country has been assigned to each
group. The three jobs to be completed are described below and
have a list of responsibilities. Decide who will complete which
job. Once you have designated the jobs, go to your country's
resource page to find websites that you will use to complete your
research. A vocabulary page is also available for each person.
Los trabajos
*The lay of the land*
The tour guide is responsible for learning about the layout of cities
or towns. How are towns organized? Where are things
located? This person also needs to know what buildings and houses
look like. What are the buildings made of? What would we
expect the churches or schools to look like?
- Learn how towns are
organized in your destination country. What are unique features
of towns?
- Create a map that shows
how the towns are organized.
- Tell how the organization
of the town affects the way people interact and their way of life.
- Research what buildings
look like. What materials are used in constructing buildings or
houses?
- Show pictures of typical
buildings, houses, churches, schools, etc.
- Complete your page(s) for
the group book.
- Compile a list of
important terms or vocabulary words.
Shopper
*Stores-n-more*
The shopper is responsible for knowing where to go to buy different
items. What are the names of various stores and what do they
sell? What are the names of other places in communities like
church, school, post office, etc.?
- Learn the names of stores in Spanish and what they
sell. If I wanted to buy some bread or pastries for breakfast
where would I go? Where do I go to buy aspirin for a headache?
- Learn the names of other places in the community such as
church, school, post office and police station.
- Tell where people shop for food and how often they grocery
shop.
- Complete your page(s) for the group book.
- Compile a list of vocabulary words.
Chofer
*Follow the yellow brick road?*
The chofer is responsible for understanding the different modes of
transportation in the country and cities. How do we travel around
the country? How do we travel place to place in the towns or
cities? This person must also know directions in Spanish, in case
we get lost.
- Learn the various modes of transportation available to
travel around the country and in a town and city.
- Give examples of places your group wants to go and how
you're going to get there.
- Find example of the cost of transportation in the country
and compare the prices.
- Learn directions in Spanish. Give an example
of directions to get somewhere.
- Complete your page(s) for the group book.
- Compile a list of vocabulary words.

accuracy of your writing.
This evaluation will be completed using the project rubric.

In completing this project you will have accomplished your
mission of learning what cities and towns are like and how to get
around in Spanish-speaking countries. How easy was it to find
