Pumpkin Globes
A
culminating activity to our map unit included creating a globe out of a
pumpkin. The students worked together with a partner to place two
strings around the pumpkin. One string was the equator, the other
string was the prime meridian. The students then used these lines of
latitude and longitude to help them place the continents.
Stencils of the continents were provided for the students.
They traced the continents on the pumpkin with a waterbased
marker (in case they made mistakes!). Following that, they painted the
continents with green paint. The water was painted the following day.
Check out the photos of our pumpkin globes! It was a great way for the
students to review the terms they had learned in their map unit!
