Parent Advisory CouncilThe Price Laboratory School Parent Advisory Council (PAC) consists of nine parents who ordinarily meet with school administrators and other interested parties on the first Tuesday of each month during the school year. PAC members are elected by the membership of the Part Teacher Partnership and Parent Advisory Council, and serve three-year terms on a staggered basis. The PAC represents the interests and concerns of the parent community to the school administration, faculty, and staff. It also serves as something of a conduit for information between the school and parents. At each meeting there is an update from the administration, as well as occasional special reports from faculty and staff explaining to parents recent innovations, developments, and responses to parental concerns. Parents, in turn, bring concerns that have been conveyed to them by members of the parent community, after which there is a dialogue between parents, administrators, and representatives of the faculty and staff regarding these concerns and a discussion of the ways in which they may be, or are already being, addressed. Issues raised at PAC meetings range widely, from matters of traffic around the school; behavior in classrooms, the locker rooms, the halls, and on school grounds; school enrollment; standardized test scores; criteria for the awarding of honors; procedures for selection of students to the National Honor Society; instructional issues; and matters related to extracurricular activities. When appropriate, discussions may be continued over two or more meetings. Occasionally, a task force or subcommittee may be created to engage in in-depth consideration of an issue and asked to bring recommendations to the PAC, which considers them and shares them with school leadership. Parent attendance and participation is encouraged and welcomed at PAC meetings. All meetings are open to the public, the agenda is publicized on the PLS Public Distribution List, and the minutes of monthly meetings are made available electronically on the PLS Web site. Robert F.
