OBJECTIVES

Section 05 of Expressive Arts in the Elementary Classroom is designed to provide teaching models of integrating music, art, drama and movement in to the elementary classroom utilizing numerous media.  Each student will also be expected to create ideas and lesson plans on their own, relating each art to appropriate children's literature.  Each student will gain an understanding of why it is important to integrate the arts into the regular classroom setting.  Each student will understand the importance of "process" when teaching the arts.  Each student will comprehend the Arts Elements and the National Standards of each artistic area.  The relationship of the arts with the other curricular areas will be a focal point of the class.

TEXTS

The required text for the course is:  Creating Meaning through Literature and the Arts:  An Integration Resource for Classroom Teachers, by Claudia E. Cornett (Prentice Hall, 2003).

The required packet for the course is available at Copy Works on College Hill.

An optional text for the course is:  National Standards for Arts Education.  What every young American should know and be able to do in the arts. ISBN 1-56545-036-1; MENC stock #1605.

INFORMATION

As our class will be meeting at Price Laboratory School, we will adhere to weather announcements relating to the closure, early dismissal or cancellation of classes or activities at PLS.  Please watch for weather related announcements regarding PLS, and our class will act accordingly.  For instance, IF PLS is cancelled for snow, our class will be cancelled on that day.  IF PLS is dismissed early for heat, our class will not meet that afternoon.
