Unpitched Percussion Instruments
- as utilized in Mrs. Swanson's music classroom -

 



Triangle - hold by strap, not touching triangle; tap with striker

Agogo Bell - like a double cow bell; strike with plastic headed mallet

Wood Blocks - hold on flat palm; strike with wooden headed mallet

Tambourine - hold with one hand, not touching any of the jingles; shake, tap or hit

Vibraslap - hold one bar at end; bounce open palm over wooden ball and release

Cow Bell - hold with one hand; strike with wooden or plastic mallet

Racket - turn crank - long or short sounds

Bells - hold and shake

Hand Drum - tap with fingers or swipe with thumb, bounce off for better sound

Guiro - place pointer finger and thumb in under-side holes; scrape with stick

Maracas - hold by handles and shake

Talking Drum / Slit Drum - strike slotted sections with plastic headed mallets

Finger Cymbals - extend one by its handle, strike with other allowing it to ring/vibrate

Cabasa - place beaded section in open palm; turn other end like opening a door knob

Caterpillar - hold both ends with both hands; rotate so moving up and down, side to side

Shakers - hold in hands and shake

Rhythm Sticks - hold one out with one hand and strike with the other
